DeleteDesktops 1.1 is a System Extension that simply deletes the old-fashioned "Desktop" files from all of the disks connected to your Macintosh that use the new Desktop database files. The new database files are used in System 7, on AppleShare servers, and on disks running the Desktop Manager INIT. DeleteDesktops is especially useful if you find yourself switching between System 7 and older systems; older systems create a Desktop file which you won't use when you go back to System 7 and it takes up bunches of disk space.
Put it in your System Folder (or your Extensions Folder for System 7 and higher). The program takes up no memory after the machine initializes and only takes up 584 bytes of disk space!
DeleteDesktops and its source code are freeware. You may not charge for it, though you may distribute it freely. It must contain the copyright notice in the "Get Info..." box.
This program was originally written by Steve Klingsporn and it was his idea. All I did was make it sleeker, make it work for all disks instead of just the Startup disk, and made it compatible with any version of the operating system.
